It's been my interest since I started this to allow readers to talk about the story, ask questions, theorize, etc. But chatrooms develop inner/outer circles, and social media is a free-for-all fandom space, both of which are just too awkward for me. I think this is the best equal-footing environment I could imagine!

So I'm hopefully publishing an update... tomorrow? Ish? Time has been really weird for me right now. I think this one is going to be a Silly page because writing for Alice has been making me feel vaguely nauseous and I miss Alex my beautiful afraid of hot dogs guy

Most of them! At one point in floor 7 I just forgot for a pretty big stretch because I was exhausted, but I played it off. It will probably happen again.

I love chances to share Fun Facts like this: the image title-text is comments from Xander, and the individual page titles (currently only viewable through Archive; sometimes they note updates, sometimes they just note pages I found interesting) are from Josie 2. A lot of the site is commented by Josie 2 actually, the YELLING.

Oh, I'm glad to hear it! I've been trying to make the alt text a feasible substitute that matches the tone of the narration, not just a raw image description. A lot of the time with stuff like this I try to think, if someone's "missing out", how can I give them their own experience...

NEEDLEMINDER UPDATE

Sorry this one's so short! I'm moving out in less than a week and I've been doing a whole lot of other not-Needleminder stuff the past few days. But I figured a small dumb update is better than no update.

Sorry for the hiatus! I'm all moved in and I have been doing a lot of prep work in Obsidian (the writing/concepting suite I've switched to, would recommend) at least. Desperately needed it since I have a lot of the big scenes but none of the in-betweens. Things are getting a little easier.

Work has been picking up again. I have a cool scene planned, probably not for the next update, but the one after that or so. I also, of course, have a dizzying amount of character notes now.

Happy birthday Needleminder! gives Alex a Hostess Cupcake with a single unlit birthday candle sticking out of it, like was given to me by my orthodontist as a kid after I went through a painful dental procedure on my birthday

I actually just realized that the dream I had today was extremely significant:

was dreaming that i had found a dvd copy of shrek in my house. sat down to watch it. bc its fucking shrek it owns

anyway i havent actually watched shrek in a while so in this dream i had forgotten that most of the music was not sung by the characters, had reconceived it more as a dreamworks trolls-style jukebox musical

and anyway, any single time there was a song, the audio track switched to french and could not be switched back until the song was over
in the dream i was having a fucking laughing fit

oh my god i got another fucking spam call and it reminded me that in my dream i was getting a spam call and i answered it while standing RIGHT next to the tv as it was playing shrek and just stood there expressionless emotionless as the spam caller received a crispy shrek audio experience.

I made this update and then had to lay down on the couch for half an hour so that's where I'm at right now.

i think somewhere in needleminder alex should be shown a "Needleminder Body Count" (he becomes briefly aware of the story he's in) but instead of being related to the story itself, it's a number of how many people in the world died of aging-related health conditions over the course of the main cast attempting to leave. I want to give him anxiety

I think a "Needleminder Body Count" should be on the screen at all times for him but it's a completely random number that means nothing

He already has anxiety but this is a really good idea. Even funnier if I make it proportionate to the amount of time it has taken me to make the story to that point IRL. I think it would fit in on Floor 3 which is the closest we get to the ending before the concept of space/time gets blown up for the rest of the story
