Quaker recalls dozens of granola bars and cereals due to a possible salmonella risk
Quote:The FDA on Friday announced that the Quaker Oats Company is recalling a variety of granola bars and granola cereals due to the possibility that they are contaminated with the bacteria salmonella, which can be deadly.
Quaker Oats Recall List
Quote:Affected products all have expiration dates of Oct. 31, 2024 or earlier, per the FDA. Anyone with the recalled products in their pantries should dispose of them.
How did "the quaker oats guy shit in all of the products?"
Quote:We don't know yet, and we might never know. Keep an eye on updates from the FDA and CDC. You may be able to receive additional information from a FOIA request, but that can depend on a ton of factors like confidentiality and who created the document trail. Instead, let's look at the problem from a systems context.
Oats can be contaminated with Salmonella (among others, see this survey for other indicators) from multiple sources, whether it be from soil, wastewater runoff, or contact with actual shit from known Salmonella vectors like birds. If these products were contaminated with desiccation resistant serovars, the Salmonella could have survived the cooking process (if applicable to the product) and contaminated production equipment. With inadequate sanitation, the equipment could have contaminated newly produced products, leading to where we are now. Additionally, Salmonella could have entered the production line from a roof leak (birds like to hang out on roofs) or other structural issues in the facility. There are tons of possible scenarios here.
TL;DR: Salmonella sucks. Profit over product safety sucks. Throw out any foods linked to the Quaker recall for your safety.
Well that sucks. I probably should actually check my pantry. But I think we can all agree...

4 New Peeps Flavors |

Peeps has announced their new flavors for 2024:
- Peeps Rice Krispies Treats Flavored Marshmallow Chicks (Walmart exclusive)
- Peeps ICEE Blue Raspberry Flavored Marshmallow Chicks (Target exclusive)
- Peeps Sour Strawberry Flavored Marshmallow Chicks (Kroger exclusive)
- Peeps Delights S’mores Graham Cracker Flavored Marshmallow Chicks Dipped in Milk Chocolate
I have no Kroger stores in my area so I'm basically fucked, it's only a matter of time before I make a Harry Du Bois-tier spectacle of myself in public.
If you weren't around for the 2022 Peeps stream, I'd like to archive it (blog post?) at some point, but I think this drawing I did at the time sums it up best:
![[Image: peeps.png]](https://img.eggware.xyz/etc/peeps.png)
If you find the Sour Strawberry Peeps it is your moral obligation to tell me how they are. Especially because I don't know if Paula will allow me to do a Peeps 2024.

PAVE Act: They've Come For Our Furries |

For the past few years I've been asking "is there anywhere on the internet to post adult content that doesn't actively hate you?" Well, it's only gotten worse, folks!
A Statewide NSFW Ban? Inside North Carolina’s PAVE Act
Quote:If you’re a furry, a sex worker, an adult content creator, or just someone who likes using PornHub, then chances are you’ve heard of the PAVE Act. This new North Carolina law, which went into effect on January 1, 2024, has radically altered the way local residents can use the internet.
In particular, sites that primarily host explicit sexual content have pulled the plug on the Old North State’s users, forcing them to use VPNs and other means to combat the law’s effects. While the PAVE Act has brought PornHub and furry imageboard e621 to their knees in North Carolina, the law isn’t necessarily a “ban” on NSFW content—not in name, at least.
Rather, it’s an act that foreshadows future bills to come across Republican-dominated legislatures, suggesting Americans living in red states might soon find their access to pornographic content de facto controlled by their local governments.
E621 has this to say:
Quote:Dec 31st: Due to the current legal situation in North Carolina and the uncertainty surrounding it, we will be blocking access to e621.net from North Carolina until we can consult with our legal counsel on this matter. We did not come to this decision lightly and we will do what we can, as we can, to rectify and remedy this situation so that we can restore access to those users that are affected by this matter. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience and will have an update as soon as possible.

okay. i figure if i ask in discord "what is something you experienced as a kid (probably in a video game or on the internet) that was unexpectedly haunting/strange/powerful and has stuck with you" people wouldnt be able to summon experiences to mind on the fly. so im gonna make a thread for it instead.
it doesnt HAVE to be from your childhood but im citing it becasue when youre a kid i feel like youre more vulnerable to seeing like. a weird powerful significance in otherwise normal or strange-but-not-too-out-there occurrences. that and people just put Whatever The Fuck in front of a child's eyes without thinking too hard about it

Panera's lethal lemonade strikes again |

About a month ago, I discussed a topic that had grown heavy on my mind:
Quote:ive been seeing people get mcdonalds hot coffee over those nightmarish caffeine drinks at panera
"how bad can it be if its at panera"
its the fucking daily maximum intake. its the content of two energy drinks in the size of half. AND its dehydrating sugar water
A friend had this to say:
Quote:that is literally going to kill people
Family sues Panera Bread after college student who drank Charged Lemonade dies
Quote:An Ivy League student with a heart condition died after she drank Panera Bread’s Charged Lemonade, a large cup of which contains more caffeine than cans of Red Bull and Monster energy drinks combined, according to a lawsuit.
The Charged Lemonade was “offered side-by-side with all of Panera’s non-caffeinated and/or less caffeinated drinks” and was advertised as a “plant-based and clean” beverage that contained as much caffeine as the restaurant’s dark roast coffee, according to photos of both the menu and beverage dispensers in the store, which were included in the wrongful death lawsuit.
But at 390 milligrams, the large Charged Lemonade has more caffeine than any size of Panera’s dark roast coffee, the complaint says — numbers that the nutrition facts on Panera’s website confirm. It also has guarana extract, another stimulant, as well as the equivalent of nearly 30 teaspoons of sugar, the complaint continues, adding that 390 milligrams of caffeine is higher than the caffeine content of standard cans of Red Bull and Monster energy drinks combined. Katz had gotten the large cup, which is 30 fluid ounces, according to the attorney representing her family.
Just when I thought I had forgotten about it, guess what crosses my Tumblr dashboard?
Panera Bread’s Charged Lemonade blamed for a second death, lawsuit alleges
Quote:Dennis Brown, of Fleming Island, Florida, drank three Charged Lemonades from a local Panera on Oct. 9 and then suffered a fatal cardiac arrest on his way home, the suit says.
Brown had consumed Charged Lemonades in the days leading up to his death, according to Monday’s wrongful death lawsuit, which was filed in Delaware, where Panera is incorporated.
It is unclear whether Brown knew how much caffeine and other stimulants were in the drink, which at the time of his death was available in self-serve dispensers and “offered side-by-side with all of the store’s non-caffeinated and/or less caffeinated drinks,” the suit says.
I've had one of these. It tasted like licking a car battery. I would not drink one again even if you paid me, especially because I do have a heart condition.
WHEN WILL IT END?

Whatever your opinion is on USAmerican Genocide Holiday #17374599573749 (and I think I've already made mine clear), there's one thing that can be said: I bought a turkey for less than a dollar per pound and I am gonna eat it.
How are you guys spending today? I, for one, am learning the horrifying truth of how much butter goes into Thanksgiving dinner.
